TOURIST ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORIES
CERRO MAMALLUCA OBSERVATORYThe Cerro Mamalluca Observatory is Located near of Vicuña, Elqui Valley, was the first major tourist center for observation and is the leading country for the astronomical tourist . He can visit every day at times that vary by time of sunset and season. It has 2 telescopes at each of its domes, ranging in size from 12 to 17 inches. It also has a small telescope is housed in one of its outdoor terraces that has a size of 8 inches. The tour has a duration of 2 hours, which details an audiovisual and later move to make the observation of the stars in the respective telescopes. |
CRUZ DEL SUR OBSERVATORYIt is the newest and modern observation center dedicated to tourism. It was opened in January 2009, lies near the village of Combarbala, Limarí province, Region of Coquimbo. The Cruz del Sur Observatory is equipped with 4 large domes, each with telescopes with dimensions ranging between 14 and 16 inches. Southern Cross wants to become the main center for astronomical observation clearly dedicated to tourism that exists in the Southern Hemisphere. |
COLLOWARA OBSERVATORYAlso in the Coquimbo Region, in the colonial town of Andacollo. One of the newer sites exists in the region to tourism development astronomical, it housed over 1,300 meters above sea level and has its main dome with a modern 14 inch telescope and its telescopes are 2 terraces of 10 and 16 inches. The visits to the Collowara Observatory has, like Mamalluca lasts 2 hours which is an introductory talk and night sky observation through telescope. |
